Airport Construction Season Begins
Hector Airport begins its 2010 construction season on Tuesday. Taxiway B (Bravo), which runs parallel and east of runway 18/36, is being partially reconstructed with a new lighting circuit installed. The outer concrete panels are being demolished and replaced due age and condition. In inner panels were replaced in the early 1990s and are still in good condition. The new lighting circuit will replace the existing incandescent taxiway lights with new energy efficient LED lights. This will be the second LED taxiway at Hector.
In addition to the taxiway project and lighting, the project will include painting surface painted hold signs, enhanced taxiway centerline markings and installing new LED REILs (runway end identifier lights) and PAPI (Precision Approach Path Indicator) lights on runway 9/27.
Northern Improvement was the low bidder at $3,371,804.53 for the project. The project is 95% eligible for Airport Improvement Project funding and the airport local share would be approximately $168,000.00. The project should be completed in early November.
