Hector International Airport is Awarded "1999 Commercial Airport of the Year"

Hector International Airport was honored with the "1999 Commercial Airport of the Year" award at the Upper Midwest Aviation Symposium banquet held in Fargo on March 7th of 2000. This award was accepted on behalf of the Fargo Municipal Airport Authority by Chairman Ken Pawluk.

This award is co-sponsored by the North Dakota Aeronautics Commission and the Airport Association of North Dakota (AAND). AAND represents airport management and authorities at 92 public-use airports across North Dakota. The award criteria measures the airport’s contribution toward construction management, airport safety and security, business and pleasure flying promotion, scheduled air service and cargo marketing, pilot terminal services and airport beautification.

Hector International Airport achievements in 1999 were:

Q   Rehabilitate south-side aircraft parking apron and Runway 13/31 pavements.

Q   Installed flood control structure along Cass County Drain 10 in conjunction with the City of Fargo.

Q   Installed new passenger loading bridge on Gate 4 in terminal building.

Q   Began a major air service marketing campaign in 1999 to promote service to three hubs; Minneapolis, Chicago, and Denver. Passenger boardings increased 14% over previous year.

Q   Two public awareness projects initiated were FM Soccer Complex and Fargo Air Museum on leased airport property.

Q   Improved public directional signage to the four major areas on the airport.

Q   Safety area to Runway 17 threshold was re-graded and stabilized.
