Airport Fire Department Takes Delivery of New Truck November 21, 2001

The North Dakota Air National Guard Fire Department at Hector International Airport has recently taken delivery of a new state-of-the-art aircraft rescue fire fighting (ARFF) vehicle.

The 2001 Oshkosh TI 1500 ARFF truck is capable of carrying 1,500 gallons of water, 210 gallons of AFFF and 450 pounds of dry chemical. All three components are required by the Federal Aviation Administration to fight aircraft type of fires. This vehicle will be a replacement for an older vehicle and will supplement eight other vehicles currently in service.

The truck is also fitted with a 'Snozzle'. This apparatus is an extendable boom that can reach 57 feet in height and spray water on a fire threat while keeping the vehicle at a safer distance from a dangerous situation.

The ARFF vehicle is equipped with a 585 bhp engine and is capable of speeds of up to 75 mph. The vehicle will also be fitted with a forward looking infrared (FLIR) device that will allow firefighters the ability to see in low visibility conditions.

The $481,000 vehicle was funded by the Federal Government and is one of 13 delivered to Air National Guard Bases across the nation. It should be placed in service within the next month.
