Fargo Airport Will Be Temporary Home to GFAFB Air Refuelers

Posted April 12, 2005

Grand Forks Air Force Base announced today that it will stage four KC-135R Stratotankers in Fargo starting in late April. The aircraft will be based in Fargo due to the reconstruction of the runway at the Air Base in Grand Forks that is scheduled to start May 1.

The Grand Forks Air Force Base is home to 50 of the big air refueling tankers. The remainder of the aircraft will be relocated to Fairchild Air Force Base near Spokane, Washington or at other military installations.

Along with the aircraft, a support crew of approximately 25 Air Force personnel will accompany the aircraft consisting of mechanics, security police, and operations personnel.

The tankers will be flying daily in and out of Fargo until early November when the runway at the Grand Forks Air Force Base is scheduled to be completed.
